M.Sc. (Data Science)

A program in data science puts graduates at the forefront of an emerging field and prepares them for an exciting career at the intersection of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science. Data Science is an interdisciplinary field of study that employs quantitative and analytical methods to gain insights and make predictions based on big data. Students learn about key computational methods and machine learning techniques and develop the deep analytical thinking skills needed to reason reliably, intelligently, and creatively from data. The vast amounts of data generated every day has created a data-rich and data-driven world. The data science major will open pathways to careers in virtually every area of society, from healthcare, security and sustainability to education, business and economics.

Data Science is the domain of study that deals with vast volumes of data using modern tools and techniques to find unseen patterns, derive meaningful information, and make business decisions. Data Science uses complex machine learning algorithms to build predictive models.

M.Sc. Data Science at NMIMS University aims to:

• Equip you with the ability to work across disciplinary boundaries in the effective application and deployment of data-intensive solutions in a variety of contexts.
• Give you a breadth and depth of knowledge and skills in computational, machine learning, and statistical principles and the capability for insightful large-scale data analysis, so you will be able to specify and implement analytical pipelines for real-world data at scale.
• Provide you with a good understanding of the ethical issues in the application of contemporary data science techniques to real-world challenges so you can be conversant with arguments concerning the risks and potential benefits and disadvantages arising from the deployment of these technologies.
• Enable you to independently initiate data science projects specified at a high-level perspective, leading them from scoping onward to completion, while exercising appropriate project management methods and maintaining stakeholder engagement.

M.Sc. Data Science program would evolve under the following domain:

Duration

M.Sc. (Data Science) is a two-year full-time program spread over four semesters, including an Industry Project in the last semester.

Eligibility Criterion

Candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics / Computer Science / Information Technology/ Data Science/Artificial Intelligence from any recognized University / institute with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks or equivalent grade.

OR  

Candidate must hold a Bachelor of Computer Application (B.C.A.) with minimum 50% aggregate marks or equivalent grade.

Admission Process

Students satisfying the eligibility criterion must undergo a two-stage selection procedure.

Stage 1- The eligible candidates will appear for a written test conducted by NMIMS University.

Stage 2- The candidates will be shortlisted for the personal interview based on the written test's performance.

The merit list of the candidates eligible for admission, based on the candidates' two-stage performance, will be displayed as per criteria laid down by the University.
